Privacy Policy
for the Android app “SpeedTimer” (package name de.webnetting.speedtimer). The German version (Datenschutzerklärung) is legally binding.

2. Principle: all data stays on your device
SpeedTimer stores your measurements, vehicles, lap times and settings only locally on your device. There is no server operated by us, no user account and no transfer of this data to us. The app has no internet permission. We have no access to your data.
The app contains no ads, no analytics or tracking tools and no crash reporting that sends data to us or third parties.
3. Location data (GPS)
To measure speed, distance and times, the app needs access to your device's precise location with your permission (Android permission “Location – only while using the app”). Location is only used while the app is open; there is no background location. Position data is evaluated only on your device.
Only the results are stored (e.g. time, distance, final speed, gradient). In track mode the app also stores the position of the start/finish line you set and the path of your fastest lap in order to show the track map and the live delta. This data does not leave your device (except via the Android backup you have enabled, see section 8).
Location is determined by the location service of Android or Google Play services (“Fused Location Provider”). Whether this service additionally uses Wi-Fi and mobile network data to improve accuracy and sends data to Google depends on your device settings (“Location › Google Location Accuracy”) and is Google's responsibility.
The legal basis is your consent via the Android permission (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time in the Android settings. Measurements are not possible without location permission.
4. Motion sensor
During a measurement the app uses the accelerometer to smooth the live display and to show G-forces. Sensor data is only processed in memory. At most the peak G-force is stored as part of the result.
5. Locally stored data and vehicle photos
In the Pro version the app stores your measurements, track sessions with lap times and the vehicles you add (name, make, model, power, optionally a photo) in a local database. You choose photos with the Android photo picker; the app only gets access to the selected image, stores a downscaled copy in its private storage and needs no permission for your photos. You can delete all data in the app at any time or remove it completely by uninstalling the app.
6. Sharing and export
When you share a result as an image or export your history as a CSV or PDF file, the app creates the file and hands it to the app you choose in the Android share dialog (e.g. messenger, email or cloud storage). This only happens when you trigger it. The privacy policy of the chosen service applies to any further processing.
7. Purchasing the Pro version via Google Play
The purchase of “SpeedTimer Pro” is handled exclusively by Google Play. Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, processes the data required for payment under its own responsibility. We do not receive any payment data. Via the Play Store app, the app only learns whether the Pro version has been purchased for your Google account and stores this status locally. The Google Play Billing Library used for this contains a logging component by Google; since the app has no internet permission, this component cannot transmit any data from within the app. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract). More information: Google Privacy Policy.
8. Automatic Android backup (Google account)
The app supports Android's backup feature. If backup to your Google account is enabled on your device, Android automatically stores the app's data (measurements, vehicles including photos, track sessions and settings) in your Google Drive and restores it on reinstallation or on a new device. The backup is performed by Google (Google Ireland Limited) as part of the Android operating system; since Android 9 it is end-to-end encrypted with your device's screen lock. We have no access to it. You can turn off the backup and delete existing backups in the Android settings at any time (Art. 6(1)(a) or (f) GDPR). More information: Google help on Android backup.
9. Voice output (optional)
If you turn on voice output, the app passes the result text (e.g. “5.84 seconds”) to your device's text-to-speech engine. No other data is passed.
10. Opening links
The links to the privacy policy and legal notice open your browser. Section 11 applies to visiting these pages. Tapping “Feedback & support” opens your email app with a pre-filled message to us containing the app version, Android version and device model; only what you send yourself is transmitted. We use your email only to answer your request.
